Shakopee Diversity Alliance July Meeting Announced

Good afternoon!

Back in March, the Shakopee School District and the City partnered to host the Shakopee Diversity Summit. We met and talked about ideas for how we can better improve Shakopee’s cultural awareness and had a great night!

From that meeting, the Shakopee Diversity Task Force was assembled and has been meeting each month to figure out the best way to move forward. The name has changed to the Shakopee Diversity Alliance and has adopted a vision that is:

Through collaboration and awareness, Shakopee is united as a vibrant, diverse, inclusive community.

The group has developed a strategic plan that includes 3 goals for 2012-13.

  1. Host an annual international festival in Shakopee that will celebrate the community’s diversity and educate everyone in attendance about diversity.
  2. Build a resource network that will inform new and current Shakopee community members about the resources available to assist them and their families.
  3. Enhance education and cultural awareness opportunities in Shakopee.

Thank everyone for their hard work!! This is exactly what I hoped would be the outcome from the Summit. A diverse group of Shakopee residents working together for a common goal.

Now it is time again for you act and get involved. We are having another meeting on July 24 at 6 pm in City Hall where we need people to join committees that will be fulfilling the goals listed above. Are you interested?

Here is a press release with details on how to get involved and the pot luck meeting to be held at City Hall. See you on the 24th!!
