Great First Volunteer Org Event – Now it is your turn

Good morning -

Last night was the first Volunteer Org Event for our Tabke for Mayor campaign. Thank you to all of our friends who took time out of their busy

One thing I learned last night is that people want to know more about our dog. This is MacKenzie. She is our 9 year old beagle.

schedule to attend! As a group, we discussed a wide range of topics from the look and feel of the campaign to how we raise money to strategies for incorporating all areas of Shakopee.

Here are a couple of the action items from the meeting:

  • Make sure everyone knows our three campaign pillars: invest in Shakopee’s future, build our business community for job growth and embrace Shakopee’s role as a leader in the Twin Cities
  • Grow the volunteer base for our campaign
  • Gather contacts for fundraising

Everyone at the meeting was charged with these three items. How are you going to help?

If you were unable to make the meeting, those are three ways you can help our campaign today. Do you have a friend who is frustrated with waiting 8 years for a park to be built? Do you live in Southbridge and are tired of how slow things move in Shakopee? Do you live near 101 and wish we had better leadership for a real solution to that road instead of maintaining the status quo? These are all questions we can answer with new leadership in Shakopee.

Get involved in our campaign today. Run with me and be a part of Tabke for Mayor to help shape Shakopee’s future.

Thank you!

-Brad

FAQ: How are you different than our opponent? Answer #3

Here is the second in a series on ways I am different than our opponent. Did you miss #1 or #2? Get it here.

Our campaign stands for three things:

  • Investing in Shakopee’s future
  • Supporting Shakopee’s new and existing business
  • Embracing Shakopee’s role as a leader in the Twin Cities

Our opponent and I have fundamental differences in beliefs that we will continue to highlight throughout the campaign. Here is answer #3: Business growth for Shakopee.

Our opponent has a goal of 2 jobs in Shakopee for every household. That is a great goal, but he has not acted on making it happen. Up until last year, Shakopee did not have a functioning board or committee to promote Economic Development. The Shakopee Chamber, where I am Chair, pushed the city to reconvene the forgotten Economic Development Authority Committee, a committee my opponent watched languish unfilled throughout his tenure as mayor. Through that committee, we have learned Shakopee has very little pad-ready space for growth and development. This means if large companies showed interest in coming to Shakopee, we don’t have the infrastructure to accomodate them. Our opponent has not put a priority on investing in the basic infrastructure necessary to move our town forward and bring business to Shakopee. As mayor, I would actively work to make Shakopee the place in the metro for businesses to relocate and would support our current base of existing small and large companies.

If you believe this is a good idea for your future, please volunteer or donate today. The only way we win is if you run with me, spreading the word throughout Shakopee that we need new local leadership to move forward and if we have the funds to buy lawn signs, door hangers and brochures. I need your help. Run with me, Shakopee!

FAQ: How are you different than our opponent? Answer #2.

  • Supporting Shakopee’s new and existing business
  • Embracing Shakopee’s role as a leader in the Twin Cities

Our opponent and I have fundamental differences in beliefs that we will continue to highlight throughout the campaign. Here is answer #2: The role of Shakopee mayor.

Our opponent and I differ greatly in our approach to the role of the mayor. In my opinion, the mayor sets the agenda and tone for our government at a 30,000 foot level, not micromanaging staff and boards. It is incumbent upon the mayor to promote new ideas, stand up for causes and lead Shakopee with a vision and specific goals for the future with energy and excitement, not sit back and wait for council members or other cities to act. As mayor, I will lead lead Shakopee in making smart, fiscally sound investments for our future that build a community where our children want grow old, that raise our home values and that support connections within our community to strengthen our town between old and new, east and west, young and old.

If you believe this is a good idea for your future, please volunteer or donate today. FAQ: How are you different than our opponent? Answer #1

First off, I like my opponent.

John Schmitt has been mayor for 8 years and committed a significant amount of time and energy to Shakopee. I enjoy chatting with him and his lovely family. I am running for mayor not because I don’t like our opponent, but because I think it is time for new leadership in Shakopee.

Here is answer #1: Leading for the future.

In the Shakopee Valley News, our opponent says he is running again because of “Unfinished business like transportation.” As mayor, our opponent missed an amazing opportunity to lead for Shakopee’s future. The city had the opportunity to set a new course for a dilapidated section of First Avenue/Highway 101. This new course could have encouraged new development, new business and supported our historic downtown. This vision did not need to involve taking property by eminent domain, it simply needed to have an idea, an idea of how to revitalize an ignored part of town. For months, Scott County (who paid for most of the project) begged our council for a long-term vision on the project’s design and direction. Our opponent could have stepped up and given a bold vision for what the corridor could be. Instead, he chose to punt. The design was taken up by city council at the nth hour, debated with fiery rhetoric and ended with a bland, uninspired design that does nothing but maintain the status quo. Through Chamber Public Policy Committee, our committee and I pushed the city to make decisions and move forward with a project design to protect the existing businesses as well and lay the foundation for future development. As mayor, I will embrace future opportunities to lead like the 101 reconstruction.
